Winter Weed Control in Progress

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been diligently making applications of post-emergent herbicides, combined with additional pre-emergent herbicides, to target winter weeds like Poa annua. Weather permitting, we will continue this process until we’ve treated all 100 acres of Bermuda grass on the property.

To ensure thorough coverage, I drop foam markers while spraying to minimize the risk of skips or overlaps. Additionally, I’ve been painting yellow hashed lines to mark sprayed areas, efficiently tying everything together and ensuring no sections are missed.

Around sensitive areas, such as our bentgrass greens, we use different herbicides to reduce the risk of unintended damage. Some herbicides tend to be tracked by equipment or shoes or may move with water during rainfall events, so we take extra care to select and apply the right products for these critical areas.

This winter weed cleanup will also be followed by another round of applications in February and March 2025, targeting summer weed pressures such as crabgrass, goosegras, and sedges. These treatments will again combine post-emergent and pre-emergent herbicides to provide broad-spectrum control.

To maintain the effectiveness of our program, I’ve also rotated the herbicide chemistries compared to previous years. This proactive strategy prevents potential resistance issues, ensuring our weed control remains highly effective.

We’re committed to delivering healthy, weed-free turf for your enjoyment, and we appreciate your patience as we complete this important work.
